As a Digital Transformation consultant at EY I have the privilege of working with some of the world's largest companies on their strategic key priorities. Reinventing the future of the customer experience in an increasingly convenient and omni-channel world has me constantly learning and growing as I coach our teams and work to make an impact with our clients and their leadership teams.

Using advanced technologies to deliver an optimized message to consumers with a focus on edge computing and web applications using data from both the local environment and the cloud. Coates portfolio includes some of the leading brands in Quick Service Restaurants, such as McDonald's, and a growing focus on the retail sector as a whole.
McDonald's - Global Mobile App
As a Product Manager on McDonald's Global Mobile App every day presented a different challenge. Whether it was working through integrations and solutions in McDonald's ecosystem or designing a new experience for customers it was a fascinating role. My leadership on the project over several years paid off as McDonald's was able to deploy the Global Mobile App to McDonald's largest markets. The application activated new experiences like digital offers and ordering in addition to new service methods such as curbside.
Global Technology Audit & Advisory
During my time with McDonald's Technology Audit & Advisory Team I had the opportunity to lead up many international audit and advisory projects. Working in the UK, Canada, Brazil, Russia, China, Australia, France, and The United States I was able to develop a truly global perspective. The project work ranged from completing IT compliance and security work to taking advantage of my skills in the emerging digital environment as an advisor to the brand. I developed new frameworks and helped our team step into an advisory role adding value for the brand. My expertise in the digital space eventually led to my transition into McDonald’s newly formed Global Digital Teams to apply my skills in a more direct manner.

The Burger Guide
The Burger Guide was the World's most popular burger blog. With millions of content impressions across the web attributed to ownership of top keywords like World's Best Burgers, Best Burgers in (City Name), and the site's images. I used the Burger Guide as a fun project while traveling to get out and explore the cities I was in. Its growth made it a fun project that I used to keep my coding skills sharp, learn new programming languages with, or to experiment with the latest frameworks. The project has been inactive since 2016 but continues to pull traffic and help people find the best burgers.

Skills
Solution Design
Solution design is one of my primary areas of focus. I am passionate about cutting through complexity and building simple but robust solutions. Finding the best technology, future proofing, solving for edge cases, cost efficiency, and ensuring easy setup and maintenance are always top of mind. With my experience developing at multiple layers of the stack I am able to evaluate different angles while ensuring we are delivering a great experience.
Experience Design
Designing experiences for users is a passion of mine. Understanding the user base, building personas, storyboarding, and building out draft wireframes are processes I am very comfortable with. One of my biggest strengths is the ability to take a low fidelity mock-up and make it into a high fidelity prototype in almost no time at all. I love doing experience audits, polling users, and finding the underlying motivations or frustrations of users to deliver a seamless experience. I believe in progress over perfection while measuring feedback is the best way to evolve an experience over time.
Software Development
At Coates I have been focused on both cloud and edge computing. Relevant technologies have included Serverless, Node.js, React, Data Pipelines (Big Query, Google Data Studio), Real-Time Events, and IoT Tech.
On McDonald's Mobile Team I spent time with the iOS and Android platforms and how to use technologies like geofencing, beacons, and more to create new experiences.
My personal development experience is in the LAMP stack. I have enjoyed the introduction of many frameworks like Bootstrap, Foundation, and other libraries for JavaScript and CSS to power my projects. Additionally, I have experimented with other technology stacks to further educate myself on how they can solve problems.
Prototyping
As someone who is well rounded in both software design and development I am able to build various prototypes. Ranging from animated visuals to proofs of concept with fully functioning back ends. My ability to deliver these quickly in a high fidelity format is greatly enhanced by my experience in graphic design. I am passionate about finding where value may exist by optimizing processes or enhancing customer experience.
Analysis and Optimization
I have made use of analytics extensively in both Information Security Audit and Software Development.
In Information Security I used detailed analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to create a risk index engine that informed our audit and security roadmap.
In Software Development to test out hypotheses and monitor user interactions the effective use of analytics is critical. I'm an avid user of Google's entire suite (Analytics, AdSense, PageSpeed, Webmaster Tools) as well as experienced in other tools like New Relic.
Audit
I am an experienced information security auditor who has assessed SOX compliance at some of the world's largest companies. I have a good understanding of control frameworks, building relationships, and assessing the scope and risks in an environment. In addition, to regulatory compliance work I am a trusted advisor to management on assessing technologies and risks related to digital transformation.
Information Security
During my time at Ernst & Young and McDonald's I became familiar with many best practices of information security. Working with varying operating systems, databases, and applications helped me become a quick learner. Performing detailed application assessments helped me understand common control failures and how to mitigate them. Additionally, while on McDonald's Mobile Application Team I was the subject matter expert on addressing exploits and threats found in the security and penetration tests performed.
